How We Make Our Custom Pet Wheelchairs

Our process for creating a custom wheelchair for your pet begins in one of two ways. We can either complete a 3D scan of your pet at our office or guide you through making a mold at home using our DIY kit.

Once we receive the scan or mold, our team brings it into our custom software to design a harness that fits your pet perfectly. This harness is what provides the flexibility, comfort, and breathability that 3DPets is known for.

After the digital design is finalized, we 3D print the harness, wheels, and all the connecting components before carefully assembling everything. When the wheelchair is complete, we’ll either schedule an in-person fitting or ship it directly to you, ready for your pet to roll.

Not All Carts Are Created Equal - Here’s Why Ours Stand Out

Similar to our prosthetics, our custom wheelchairs are made specifically for your pet and only your pet. We use our own shock-absorbing wheels and custom components to make them the most advanced and comfortable options on the market. Our wheelchairs are designed for pets born without front limbs, with front limb deformities, or missing both hind limbs. Each one is custom-fit using state-of-the-art technology to ensure the best possible comfort and support.

Our custom-made harnesses provide flexibility where it’s needed and stability where it matters most. They’re lightweight, breathable, durable, and modular, offering unmatched comfort and adjustability. We guarantee the fit and work closely with you and your pet to give them the best chance for comfort, mobility, and success. Our carts are also built to adapt over time, with adjustable pitch and height to keep up with your pet’s needs.

Is My Pet A Good Candidate For Your Wheelchair?

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Wheelchairs and Carts

Do You Make Wheelchairs For Cats Or Other Animals?

At this time we do not build wheelchairs for cats, for other animals including farm animals we will do a special evaluation to see if we can offer a wheelchair for them.

Is there a Warranty?

We offer a 180-day no questions asked hardware warranty, the only thing we will not cover is if your dog chews the device. Additionally, we have our fit-guarantee, if we don’t think the fit is good after modifications we will modify and rebuild it.

Are 3DPets Wheelchairs better?

We are biased but there are many differences that set us apart from the competition. The most important being that your pet does not get slung into a metal frame, our carts are built from harnesses that are replicas of your pets torso. This greatly increases comfort and the odds of adaptation. Our carts are breathable, waterproof, easy to put on/off, are adjustable, and come in awesome colors.

Do vets recommend dog wheelchairs?

Many Vets, Rehabbers, and Therapists who are aware of wheelchairs and their benefits will always recommend them to a pup who may be a good fit for one. If your Vet is unsure or doesn’t have experience with them, we always recommend getting a second opinion!

Are wheelchairs good for dogs?

Wheelchairs can be tremendously helpful for pups needing to regain mobility, correct spinal alignment, and have a better quality of life.

How do dogs lay down when using a wheelchair?

Dogs cannot really lie down in a wheelchair.

How can I help my dog with bad back legs?

There are lots of different types of wheelchairs on the market, if your dog has lameness of the rear limbs you may want to look at some of the carts that simply suspend their hind end.

Can dogs sit or lay down in a wheelchair?

If the wheelchair is for their front limbs then most dogs can sit but not lay. If the cart is for the rear end then they will not be able to sit or lay.

How it all works: Making the devices

Creating a Cast

Our casting kit can be shipped worldwide and allows you to create a precise, sturdy mold of your pet's body. It’s a simple process, and we’re here to help if you need support. You’re also welcome to visit our office or a local 3DPets PAWvider for a quick and easy 3D scan.

3D Scan

When your pet's mold arrives (or if you choose to visit us or a 3DPets PAWvider), we use the LiDAR technology on an iPhone to 3D scan and create a digital version of your pet.

Design

Your digitized pet is then modified with our custom software to the specifications of their needs and body. This creates their custom jacket or orthotic that the device componentry attaches to.

3D Print

The device is printed on our high-resolution 3D printer with a special flexible Thermoplastic Poly-Urethane (TPU) in your chosen color.

Assemble

After sanding and removing imperfections, we attach high-quality, human grade components and complete a final inspection prior to fitting or shipping.
